I have several questions :
1- is the spelling correct?
2- what is it? (a kind of food, or spices, etc.)
3- is this word japanese or not? (it has an origin)
if you have more info., you can give it.
thanks

It is a plant, not unlike mustard really, although it's not the seeds but the root that people use as a spice.
As far as I know the word is Japanese in origin, but I'm no expert. :)
edit: Also, use wikipedia, it's got a lot more on the subject than I can tell you

Yes, the spelling is correct and I do believe it is Japanese in origin. It is a kind of green paste that is often mixed with soy sauce as a spicy sauce for sushi and other japanese/thai food. It is kind of like an oriental horseradish sauce. Now you can get a lot of wasabi flavored stuff- wasabi peanuts, wasabi peas, etc.

the plant is very strange. the strangest thing is that they make wasabi ice cream !!!!!
I actually never taste any kind of japanese food, and I must have a chance (of course that never happend) to go there to taste their food.
