So you wanna be a poet? Well,
why not, poets get to have
the hottest chicks, the hunkiest
hunks, the best tables
at restaurants, insider
stock tips, military deferments
for their sons & daughters...
They get to be written up
and interviewed, live,
on tv! They get baseball stadiums
named after them, airports, city streets...
*
I had a point back there
when I began but now
I’ve forgotten it, but see
it doesn’t matter

I will take the military deferment for my daughters.
As for the rest, they would never find me. I am a master of invisibility. I was practicing getting lost at 3. :D
Cute poem. It does point out well those in any profession who fill their lungs with hot air so they can float above us all.

So you wanna be a poet?
Are you sure you got the stones?
You're gonna spend a lotta time just staring
At a blank piece of paper—
You see you know the poem is in there hiding.
You're gonna get inspired my young friend,
And set out to write the poem, song, epic
That's gonna change this old world—
Really make a difference—
Until you hang fire on a word and just can't move...
You gonna send your poems out to the publishers
With a star in your eye and a song in your heart..
They will be published you are absolutely certain.
That first rejection slip bites.
It will prove if you got the stones.
If you do, you keep on sending.
One day you get this magical little letter.
Dear:___________. This is to tell you, your poem will be published.
And you look for payment and find only authors’ copy.
This also proves if you have stones.
You count it a victory and keep sending.
It's not the money; it's the fact that others read your poem.
Then, we can call you a poet...

This is the truth of the matter, your last two lines say it all. :thumbs_up

I loved the irony in the first piece and the cold (alas) reality of the second.
