I'm currently partway through viewing the DVD The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid and it's a wonderful, fine movie! Midway there's a scene in a brothel in which an improbably lovely whore sings a very beautiful, wistful song in, I think, Scandinavian. I would love to have a translation of that song and the name of it and of a CD on which I might find it.

Is there not info on DVD about who did the soundtrack?

PrinceM: All I could come up with was that Inger Stratton was the whore who sang the song, and that Dave Grusin was the music brain behind the movie.... (but he didn't necessarily create that song)...

Still working on it, though! :)

Many thanks for what you've come up with so far & your intention to go on looking. With the name you provided I posted a question on WikiAnswers. If you decide to rent the DVD, do please let me now what you thought of it and if you enjoyed the song (which is in chapter 12)

Hope you get your question answered, I am curious about this 'scandinavian song', too...

Anyhow, I have e-mailed a friend of mine who is totally zealous about music and movies, and so if this is a challenging question, he is the one to get on the proverbial case. Lets see what happens... - K :)

Yes (Dave Grusin), but I believe that the song may be a traditional one or at any rate not of his devising. If your taste is anything like mine, you will do your heart a favour by watching hat excellent movie and listening to that song.

We shall overcome
We shall overcome
Oh deep in my heart
I do believe
We shall find the name of that song and manage to get a copy of it on CD some day!
