(Yes, Baki, I stole the title idea from you. Because Doctor Who and MST3K are both popular among nerds.)

Remember that wacky show from the 90s with the talking robots?

*alarms go off* WE'VE GOT MOVIE SIGN!!!!!

What is Mystery Science Theater 3000? (http://www.mst3kinfo.com/mstfaq/basics.html)

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa144/shesoutofsync/mst3k.jpg

Or, here, check out the lyrics to the theme song (Q: What were the lyrics to the opening song? A: Six different sets of lyrics were created over 11 years. I put in the Joel era one.))

In the not-too-distant future-
Next Sunday A.D.-
There was a guy named Joel,
Not too different from you or me.
He worked at Gizmonic Institute,
Just another face in a red jumpsuit.
He did a good job cleaning up the place,
But his bosses didn't like him
So they shot him into space.

We'll send him cheesy movies,
The worst we can find (la-la-la).
He'll have to sit and watch them all,
And we'll monitor his mind (la-la-la).
Now keep in mind Joel can't control
Where the movies begin or end (la-la-la)
Because he used those special parts
To make his robot friends.

Robot Roll Call: (All right, let's go!)
Cambot! (Pan left!)
Gypsy! (Hi, girl!)
Tom Servo! (What a cool guy!)
Croooow! (He's a wisecracker.)

If you're wondering how he eats and breathes
and other science facts (la la la),
Then repeat to yourself, "It's just a show,
I should really just relax
For Mystery Science Theater 3000!"

Who's your favorite 'bot? Mine's Crow. That wisecracker. I like him the best because of who plays his voice and they way he looks and he slips in the most sexual innuendos, which is hilarious.

And...for the most sacred question of all...do your like Joel or Mike? I like Joel. He's more friendly looking, and the original guy shot into space. Plus every episode he's in Trace Beaulieu is, too. (One of the main reasons why I watch the show) And an invention exchange. I'll watch an occasional Mike episode...especially nowadays since I've seen just about every Joel episode I can get my hands on. In fact, the last episode I watched was a Mike episode. "Space Mutiny".

"MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!"

"Big McLargehuge!"

"Heyyyyy Macarena."

"What is it?! Congrefs?!" (I've always wondered that myself.)

Plus Pearl is not a cool mad scientist...Dr. F is. And she's in a buncha Mike episodes.

My favorite episode(s) (can't pick just one!) are "Eegah" and "Pod People".

Here's Joel:

(It stinks!)

So basically, MSTies are like Trekkies or Star Wars fans. (Don't know what the "official" nickname is for you guys...even though Star Wars isn't really considered very "nerdy".) We're rabid, and we're nerdy. WE CRAVE MST3K MARATHONS WITH POPCORN AND OTHER SALTY/SWEET JUNK FOODS!

And if you've never seen MST3K, I seriously consider renting it. It was voted one of the best TV shows ever in TIME magazine. I really don't like much TV, but this show is really exceptional. It's intelligent. It's creative. It has mad scientists in it. It has weird science experiments in it. It has puppets (I mean...robots. ^^') in it. It's supercalifragilisticexpialiwacky! I like to say, "Everything I know about pop culture I learned from MST3K." SO JOIN US.

Dont' know if I'll get much response to this, but it's worth a try.

Always remember to watch out for snakes, everyone. And that my fandom mocks yours. :D

You prolly guessed I'd type a bit in here...I mean you did introduce me to MST3K. And it is a very interesting TV show- I just love how it mocks bad movies. But I wouldn't call all people who watch it nerdy...sarcastic maybe but not nerdy.

I do indeed remember this one. Joel was the first host
and another guy Mike was the host until the show lamentably went out of orbit. I still remember an interview
I heard Joel Hodgson give: when he was asked whther it worried him that some viewers wouldn't "get" all the jokes,
he replied, "The RIGHT people will get them."

I thought this show was a perfect example of Post Modernism: watching people(I use the term loosely)
watching a movie. You can't get any more self-referential
than that!

Der-hay.

I'm just playfully stereotyping. :D

When I said "people (I use the term loosely)" I meant
the Robots! But I loved that show! Remember the ep when they were going to throw a frat party? Crow was in charge of buying all the refreshments, etc. but instead he
spent the entire budget of the party on a window. . .That way, during the party, he could do what many frat brothers do -- yell out of it at a departing girlfriend! Crow
opened the window, stuck his antlered head of it and lamented : "Debbie! Debbie! "

I love MST3K. Haven't watched any in a while though. I like Crow, he's such a dope, but he's hilarious. Don't know if I like Joel or Mike better, I think I've seen more Mike episodes. I'll have to watch some Joel and some Mike and report back with my analysis. Dr. F is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than pearl. I LOVE DR. F!!!

This post totally made me smile. Dr. F is the best mad scientist. Ever. One of my favorite invention exchanges is where he replaces Frank's blood with radiator fluid. I recently made my log off sound a audio clip of him saying "Push the button, Frank." That's pretty much the worst line of every Dr. F episode because that means it's the end. :( Wahhhh.

Guess what I'm watching, guys?

MST3K's "Bride of the Monster". ED WOOD!!!!!!! YAY!

I also finally get to see the beginning of the short "Hired". (the last half is on "Manos", which I own)

"Maybe I shouldn't be trying to sell cars in Amish country?"

Won't finish it tonight, too late. :( I can't wait. Ed Wood is awesome. Haven't seen this one yet. D: *bad b-movie fan*

Speaking of b-movies, I really really want to see "The Astro-Zombies". But now I'm on a tangent.
