View Full Version : Are you a thinker or a doer?

I took a Holland trait test recently, and found that I'm an "Investigative," which describes me as someone who prefers to think than to actually do something. Somehow this made me realize that I'm very inexperienced--if not outright awful--when it comes to practical manual labor around the house (i.e. fixing things not related to computer while using a hammer, screwdrivers, and the likes).

While I'm trying to fix myself, I'm just wondering if fellow bookworms here are the same or if it's just me.

I can fix alot of things, not that I am not a thinker, I can do both, you need to think up strategies when attacking a problem, like repairing someones computer, a part time job of mine, or when it comes to designing an arbour and then constructing it, more of a hobby.

i think there is nothing can be done without thinking...
if we want to do somthing we must think carefally avoiding regret

I am extremely polarized at that topic. I know how to think very well, but doing.... ah, let's better not speak about it.

Nice thread! Your precise question defines the opposites between the two hemispheres of the brain. In the most vague manner, the left hemisphere generally controls "doing," while the right, does not necessarily control, but concerns "being." Statistically, with no offense to anyone, females tend better to unite the two traits having, on average, a 48% larger corpus callosum, which connects the two hemispheres, and also, psychologially, may have a correspondence with holistic vs. analytical thinking.
I apologize for the overload of information; I have a double-major in college for english literature and nursing. The preceding question launched thought into my latter major. Two fairly informative personality tests that may further help are the Meiers-Briggs(-Jung) test and the Big 5 test. Good luck.
Whew!

Hmmm, I'm a thinker most of the times than a doer, because I think about what happens next in advance, trying to avoid some troubles ahead, so I guess that explains it. :D

Well..I can def. think, and do..certain things..lol
I'm NOT good with hammers and screwdrivers, well I never really tried using ones, but I watch my old man working with them a lot, and I think I know a thing or two about fixing stuff around the house, but I still think that I only "know" I've never really DID fix anything...I doubt that I'll ever do..lol

I like to think I've found a healthy balance between the two.

I am a little of both. I realize that I must think before I do, in most situations. At work for example, it is wise to think something through before you act on it, especially if it involves and email or a phone call. I despise people who think they know everything and go ahead and DO things without realizing or hearing that what they've done is completely idiotic.

On the other hand, I would never be hired for anything due to my exceptional intellect, so I am one of those people who better do something.

What is wrong with being both? I think a lot, but there are times for action. Then you shuck the Hamlet complex off and just do it baby. :D

I usualy to think about doing before I actualy do.

If one does without thinking that person will die:brickwall and If one thinks without doing he will never go anywhere.

I suppose I am a little of both. I don't tend to do too much without thinking a little beforehand. I do like to get things done, though. So, I like to think it through to make sure, whatever it is, it is done the way that I want to get it done.

'Thinking' can be actually doing something. It can solve your troubles which no action/motion of body in this world can.

I'm a thinker, I guess.

:D I can think about doing the dishes, but I won't actually do them. :D
