View Full Version : Forum Suggestion...

I was thinking that it might be convenient to perhaps create a new forum dedicated to people's literary questions. It would include homework help, essay help, "what book was this?" help, "how do I...?" help, and whatnot. There seem to be a lot of one time posters who just need some questions answered to help them along in projects, and who better to help them than our litnet members? I know I would be happy to spend time in there trying to answer people's questions. I'm sure other litnet members would be happy to as well. It would also keep these types of threads cluttering up the general literature forum.

It's just a suggestion. Give me feedback :)

Yes, YES! Glad to see somebody thought of suggesting this, I get incessantly bored by those threads in regular forums, particularly the ones in which somebody is basically asking of you to do their homework (and here I do not refer to those who ask help with their homework - I have no problems with that, of course - but to those who expect you to do their job completely, ex nihilo). I believe there should be a separated area of forum for those issues.

Definitely yes, I strongly believe there should be a separate category for this. As a student, I understand what these kids must feel each time they are bothered with loads of homework they can hardly even comprehend, especially those who drop by the forum as a last resort; however, I also think it would be much better if we initiated real learning and not spoonfeeding amongst these youngsters in need. This would probably be a nice place to start. Good idea, blackbird. :)

This forum is *always* going to attract people who sign up purely for homework help :)

They often just post once. Sometimes a few times. Sometimes they thank the people who try to help them, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they stick around, often they don't. C'est la vie. There is no need to be rude to these people; either you can choose to help them or you can choose to ignore them.

This site is built on a large database of etexts; each author of these works has their own sub-forum for discussions; http://www.online-literature.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=3156

If a homework-type question (or any other type of thread for that matter) applies to one of these authors, it goes in that author's sub-forum. That is the way the site is intended to be used. Things are organised by author as much as possible.

If a homework-type question is about an author who does not have a sub-forum, depending on the question, it might go in the General Literature forum, the Poems, Poets, and Poetry forum, or, it might go in the General Writing forum, which was created for these type of homework questions that don't 'fit' anywhere else.

Forums are designated based on subject, not type of question. When you change the method of designation you end up with redundancy and confusion where two forums might be the "best place" to post one topic.

Besides, a homework help type question can evolve into a nice discussion.

I hope this is an appropriate thread to ask this. Perhaps it's because I'm a greenhorn in the literature world still, or maybe that I'm just a fanatic when it comes to her work, but, why is Ayn Rand, the mother of objectivisim and a master of the written English language not included in the list of authors on this site? I was hoping to find discussions on her work, especially on The Foutainhead. -_-

All of Rand's works are copyright protected so they will not appear on the site: http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17769

You can do a search for Rand topics in the General Literature section, or, you can start your own :)
