I just realised, well you know how i said i live in Roskilde? we're the host of THE rock festival of the year (I'm serious it's worth a pilgrimage) people come from all over the world and great bandds play there every year, the who, chili peppers, and so many others....THE POINT... Radiohead are playing this year, and you'll be in DK and everything so you can see them!?!

subterranean
12-15-2007, 06:21 PM

I saw the poster down the street with radiohead in it but it's in Danish! I didn't really bother to ask because I thouught it was just an ad for their new album!!!

Owww, I gotta go and see!!!

Chava, it's in Danish! Please help me

Oh PS to Niamh, this is not just a festival, it really is THE festival..and if we time it right... we can bring Larry ;)

Chava

You would fly to copenhagen airport. From there it's about a twenty five minute train ride, tickets aren't too expensive. i suppose you would come the evening before it starts, then i could pick you up at the station and we can stay in my place. since i have limited space i may have to incorporate my neighbour too, since she is going as well. No prob, we'll sort it out! heck maybe someone could stay with Sub! :D then i can show you all the bookstore i work in and distribute my fancy 35 % discount! (Brag)

Niamh
12-17-2007, 07:17 PM
what is the price of the tickets?

Chava
12-17-2007, 07:27 PM
the 8 day ticket that i'm getting is 220 euro. it is possible to pay a bit more and get a tent as well, all the info is on he webpage: http://www.roskilde-festival.dk/2008/frontpage/tickets/

Concerning planes, there are loads of cheap flights from dublin to DK, and the train tickets are like 5 euro from the airport. As mentioned i'm blessed to live out here where it takes place (yey, for the hippie university;)). feel free to PM me. If you guys are serious about this i can compile a little "Brochure" with info or something to answer questions, show pictures from past festivals, even get my friends who went last year to share experiences?

Niamh
12-17-2007, 07:32 PM
Sounds cool! €220 for eight days! that really good! a festival in Ireland could cost you more than that for two days with camping!

Chava
12-17-2007, 07:33 PM
wow, well the policy here is that everyone should come for the music and the surpluss after the event goes to charity and funding upcoming musicians. I'm guessing you're in then? ;)

Niamh
12-17-2007, 07:38 PM
yeah i just have to secure the time off and get a ticket sorted!

Chava
12-17-2007, 07:40 PM

Niamh
12-17-2007, 07:46 PM
Just one thing though.... How fast do the tickets sell out for this?

Chava
12-17-2007, 07:48 PM
hmm, good question, i'll be getting mine sometime in the spring, usually around march-april i'm thinking, i didn't go last year but i'll ask my mates what time to get them by, i'll get back to you tomorrow. For now though, i think i'm going to return to marx and capitalist accumulation. Now if anyone wants to proofread that for me i'll owe you beer (or soda) at the festival!

Niamh
12-17-2007, 07:49 PM
i went to the site and i've lots of Q's but i'll ask you tomorrow. am off to bed now.

Right, here are some questions for Chava.

I went into the website for the tickets and where you select the ticket type you want it only says from 3-6july, but you said you got an 8day ticket. Is it still actually an 8day ticket, but the gig is only from the 3-6th?

If you dont buy a tent ticket, can you actually bring your own tent and camp?

Would someone like me coming from Ireland be better off getting a tent ticket? And what would be best, the two man or four? it says you can have guests stay in you tent so i dont mind sharing!

Who would share a tent with me?

Chava
12-18-2007, 08:27 AM
Ta dum, Answers ensue:
There is something called 'the warm up' which lasts from the 29th of july, and if you want to participate in that you need an 8 day ticket: http://www.roskilde-festival.dk/2008/frontpage/tickets/general_ticket_information/ says towards the top of the page? I'll admit that it does not show up when you click order ticket... Hmmm, i'll give them a call and sort it out! Fear not!

Most people bring their own tents, i'm bringing mine, it takes for people, me two scandinavians, and possibly Sub if she wants? people usually form 'Camps' where the tents form a group with a sheet or something to create a covered place to cook and eat, play music, whatever.

I suppose if you wish to order a tent you might want to wait to find out if we can charm any others to join us here, other wise maybe the three of you so far interested (Sub, Aimus, youself) could shack up in a fourperson? When you set up your own tent you choose your own place in the mess of places (it's a tight fit sometimes) but the rent'a'tens are already set up, so you don't actually get to choose your neighbours. on the other hand, they're set up when you arrive, and you don't have to spend a week or two getting mud of them after the festival.

OH WOW!! Ill hopefully be in Prague though... humm but I get weekends off maybe I can just pop in for the weekend say HI All and then toddle off back to work and if I dont get to go to prague then I can come for the whole 8 days...!!

Chava
12-18-2007, 03:58 PM
You shall be ever so welcome! Camping is not so bad once you get over the cold, the heat, the dampness and the dust. After that part it's pritty much just fun :)

Nightshade
12-18-2007, 04:03 PM
but is it possible to just come for 2 days?
*edit like half an hour later* Oh this is exciting ... but thinking of all the reason I probably wont be able to come, but as I was telling Koa over a 2 hour cup of hot cholcate earlier this is summer is going to be Nights grand european adventure, so this will fit in nicely with my plans, as long as they allow me to take a couple of days off work, in prague ( if I get it) oh I need toi finish all my paperwork for that ... send it in wait for possible confermation get my self a map and start plotting my travels, how should I go? where should I go, avoid the planes would be nmost fun , I think , should I go by ferry via denmark and holland? then overnight train.... should I work like crazy save £1,000 to blow on 32 hours on the Orient express? Decisions decions....

**now look what youve done Im suppoosed to be relaxing

Chava
12-18-2007, 04:58 PM
well although it is not possible to buy a two day ticket, it is possible to come for the big concerts the final evening (sunday) then you can stay in CPH the first day and see the town, then you can come join us the last day? we can even come and join you sunday morning, as you are of course allowed to leave thr grounds, and we can all go to the book cafe that is home to all nerdy students here?
Wow... I'm getting way ahead of myself... Anyway, it would be cool to see you aswell :)

Nightshade
12-18-2007, 05:06 PM

Niamh
12-18-2007, 06:53 PM
Its not just students who need to plan ahead!
I have to book the time off work so i need the correct dates and stuff. Does it start on the 28 r 29th? and what date does the camping entry thingy start. I dont have a tent and i doubt i'd get it through irish customs. I'd rather be camped with everyone though. No fun otherwise.
And dont worry Nightie. I've never been to a festival before either! (hence all the crazy questions.)

Chava
12-18-2007, 07:36 PM
well, tent issues can be solved, my family has tents aplenty to lend out, just don't cook inside them and all will be well :) this may be of help, i have two more three person tents at home in the basement, also it is east to purchase really cheap tents, many do this and simply leave them behind when they go home. http://www.roskilde-festival.dk/2008/frontpage/practical_info/camping/

i starts the 29th, with the 'ceremonius' opening of the gates and everyone rushes to get the best camping spot. there are warm up gigs, but the big bookings dont start untill the 3rd.

Niamh
12-18-2007, 07:46 PM
So i'd probably best to head over on the 28th and head home one the 7th or 8th? I suppose we wouldnt be packing up tent till the 7th which is the day after....

Chava
12-18-2007, 07:55 PM

And yes, I'd like to share that tent with you!!
Have you booked your ticket yet? I need to wait for my boss to return from her vacation before I book the ticket because I need her to approve my leave on those dates.
And you got 35% discount? When I was working a bookstore chain, I got only like 10% and I was a supervisor there! :crash:

Ok, I can accomodate one or two people at my apartment. I only have one bed room but the lounge is big enough for 2 people. And hopefully food won't be an issue:D :D

There are much more interesting things to see. I've set the assignment with my friends and we're compiling a list of must sees.

Chava is a very sweet person. I had a very good time this evening when we met and hang out. We had dinner at a Turkish restaurant and Í had my firsh Turkish buffet, which was a fine one :). She also told me her childhood stories, where most of them involved Indonesia, my home. ;) And she showed me some of the cool places that I'll surely visit next time I hit downtown. It was a very short 3 hours yet I'm sure I'll hang out with her again soon. :) :) :)
