To My Reverend Pundits, Mullahs,Rabbis, Priests and Gurus
by mazHur

O my reverend Pundits, Mulla's,Rabbi's, Priests and Guru's
I beseech you to teach me something new
Or just stop delivering me your sermon;
Sorry, I am not impressed.
I have heard such talk since a toddler;
In the Montissori and the kindergarten
My teachers taught me
To read and write alphabets, counting
The way to understand and tell
The colors and shapes of things
Living and Non-living;
Then as I advanced in studies,
More of arithmetic,social studies and general science
Were ingrained in my pulpy brain;
By the time I had finished my high school,
I had learnt most of what you say in your sermons.
Resting not at what I had so far learned,
I went for higher studies
only to find that what ever I was being taught
Was just an elaboration and extension
Of what I was taught in my childhood;
Anyway , I graduated in my studies,
Then put some years in specialization
And here I am now before you.
So, please don't regurgitate what I already learned
All those long years,
The basics as well as the advanced,
Tell me somethiing new, please!
I know I have to thank God
For all He has bestowed on me;
For His mercy and magnanimity,
For everything , all he's cause of;
But for extending all my gratitude and prayer,
Why do you urge me to periodically attend,
In a set style and artificial form,
The temple, the mosque, the church, the gurdawara
And all that Men have built to gather
On Fridays, Sundays and Saturdays
All round the year?
I told you I spent a lifetime
In my academic pursuits,
Studying the necessary in's and out's of knowledge;
But I never went there again
After I completed my educational pursuit;
Why, Why , then you sermonize
Men to attend the self-nominated places
Of worshipping God
When the God is Everywhere
Or Nowhere??
It troubles me to find that to worship God
Why the believers are driven into a ritualistic habit
Of wasting time ;
If the Believing Men can thank the Almighty
All the time (which they are supposed to do )
Why then all this suffocating binding to congregate
At a specific place, at a specific time and day??
Well, I don't do that after leaving my alma mater
Or the college or the University
After I left it
I also don't go there again to learn
What I was already taught
And acquired as knowledge;
By Joe, I fail to comprehend
Why you keep beating about the bush
All the time?
Why the mortals once taught
And who believed in your respective faiths
Are directed to congregate and chant
Choirs of thanks and gratitude to the Almighty
and waste their time and deafen their ears
By the burden of listening to your rote ,
When they could do it in their hearts,
Everywhere, at any time?
Think over it my dear clergy-heads
And tell me the logic behind your lessons
Which everybody has learnt since his childhood
And could never forget all his life;
You certainly don't have to remind him
Of his business towards God
For God's sake leave us all alone !

It's hard for me to be objective about this piece since I'm so much in agreement with the essence of your argument. It might please you to know that someone once suggested that over the entrance to every church, synagogue, temple or mosque there ought to be this banner:

Important information
If true
but it might have further strengthened the piece if there had been at least a hint if not an overt statement of what you personally believe. After all, if what these Pundits, Mullas etcetera have been preaching is true and if that truth is vital to the preservation of our 'souls,' then can they refrain from constantly reiterating it against the clamour of all the other 'truths' that are proclaimed day & night by every tv commercial we see, every sexy babe or dude or Lexus that goes by?

Ahh, the sandbox of life, where all the important lessons are learned...don't throw sand, play in your own spot, don't hit, play nicely, don't pee in the sand, don't keep all the toys to yourself, don't knock over someone else's castle.....
I love to tease my professor friend that I get to be the first to teach the children about the solar system.

I will refrain from commenting on the religious issues you raise cause someone may push me out of the sandbox and I will cry and have to look for my caretaker. :D

I liked this one, MazHur, but you don't need the apostrophes in the title and first line. (They're all simple plurals.) Also please check the spelling on "Montessori"I'm not sure of the spelling myself, but I'm fairly certain that it's capitalized, as it comes from the name of the person who created such schools; her first name was Maria.
Back to the piece itself -- witty and earnest at the same time, and once again, you're asking the BIG Philosophical
questions

Oh, MazHur, thanks but au contraire. For Auntie is decidedly NOT "always right" -- in fact, if she had a dollar for everytime she was egregiously WRONG, Bill Gates would be hitting her up for a loan!
