Déjà Vu

Déjà Vu. I’ve been here before.
See, there’ll be a “For Rent” sign up over that store.
This is Aston Street that we are walking down.
You’d take a right three blocks down on Main into Downtown.

It’s eerie. From out of the mists in the back of my mind,
Flashes of memories from another time.
Everything is so familiar, so utterly welcoming,
As if to say “You’ve finally come back home again.”

Yet, far as I know, this would be my very first time,
To ever walk past the Millington City Limit sign.
How did I know that name? I have never been,
To Millington, this town I find myself now standing in?

And yet, that’s Park Street curving away on the right,
Goes up past the graveyard and on to lover’s leap heights.
Ah, she was a dark haired beauty, my girl Paige—
Lived over on the Southside out on Willoughby Lane…

I’m in a muddled messed-up confused dream!
I’ve only been married once, and Mart is here with me.
So how does someone else's face seem to softly glow,
And who’s memories are these and from how long ago?

I’m distracted by every thing that I see.
Pointing it out to Mart, who wonders why it isn’t strange to me.
Everything is so familiar, so real, so alive it seems!
Perhaps I have been here in one of my oh, so vivid dreams…

For that man can die and relive life on Earth in two separate times,
Is a mystery I have never been able to grip with my mind.
I recall nothing of being here, living here, before, but it’s true—
Why can I not stop the onrush of Déjà Vu?
I’d give anything to silence the voices of Déjà Vu…

Pen, when you are right-on, you are very right-on.

I like the pace of this. The language is just right. The rhyme worked subtly, a credit to you because without the craft of that it would have interferred with the substance I think.

Kudos!
