ad Astra per Aspera

I set my focus long ago beyond the things that I could see.
The world in which we live is wondrous, but I shunned its chains.
To allow myself the thoughts and dreams required no boundaries,
I could not be held prisoner in flesh and ivory remains.
But I didn’t factor into my equation anything as simple as a golden stairway,
I factored in lots of backbreaking hard work and consumption of my time.
It is only the foolish that think you can conqueror tomorrow on what you know today.
When the only thing certain is that Death comes to all flesh after a while.
So what I do is learn and grow, and apply the things pay as I go, down the road.
The puzzle pieces fit at times, otherwise they are out of line, I work with what I get.
Some days you think you know it all, at other times, you are hopelessly lost, in either mode—
You retrace your steps begin anew, with something that you know is true, but you don’t quit.
If man is ever destined to take his place among this universe’s sea of stars:
Adversity is the one obstacle in his path he must learn doesn’t belong , even though his scars…

Lovely photo.
Nice piece, but are the long lines intentionally lengthy? (I had to move the arrow keys back and forth to read each line. "Alexandrian" referring to Alexander the Great's
attempts at poetry
or serpentine, Re: "Essay on Criticism" from Alexander Pope:
"like a wounded snake, drags its slow length along."

The title of your poem is the motto of which U.S. State?

The title of your poem is the motto of which U.S. State?Kansas, but I didn't know that at the time. It means "To the stars through difficulty." What size is your monitor? I can see the whole poem on my 17. It was a philosophical piece. Philosopher's are nothing if not wordy... http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l108/AbsalomKane/Smilies/King.gif

and nothing in my previous reply should indicate that
