Why did the chinless man even attempt to give the skull-faced man that peice of bread? Why wouldn't he just eat it himself? Didn't he know that he would get yelled at or beat? I understand that he probably felt bad for the skull-faced man, but isn't there supposed to be no emotions, so how could he even feel bad for him???

It's Party's wish, but it cannot happen in the proles, and there lies the hope. Party member could hardly be skull-faced so it must have been some poor prole.

I think that the chinless man tried to give the skull faced man the piece of bread because he felt sorry for him. Also seeing how the chinless man tried to do this for the skull faced man, that might be why the chinless man got turned into the police. He may have been too kind and someone turned him in...
