I am doing research for a cultural analysis paper and I am wondering if readers found the book to challenge the pre- accepted roles of men, women, and politics or reinforce them?

I found the political side to be challenging as the thought of what a totalitarian regime might be like was unknown to me, having been born a decade after the end of WWII in England and having been brought up in a free society.
As to the roles of men and women, I just commented in another thread that I don't think Orwell had anything to say on this point at all and that it neither reinforced nor changed my perceptions on sexual stereotypes.
