Muses for Amuse

What do you write to amuse a Muse?
When you don’t even know which one?
People forget with this small word that they use,
That there were nine sisters –not one.
Is it Calliope, Melpomene, or Clio—
Thalia, perhaps, or Urania, or Terpsichore—
Could be, Polyhymnia, Euterpe, or even Erato—
You see why you have given me such a chore?
And yet perhaps this blushing muse reflects them all,
And in her poetry glimpses of each dancing muse is found.
Today she’ll choose a love poem, tomorrow lyrics call,
Down historic roads, comedy and tragedy abound.
So we call all nine of the sisters and son Orpheus to the throng:
Happy Birthday to Amuse, may you ever stay as lovely as a song…
