When Winston gets arrest he is waiting in his cell for a long time. Then O'Brien comes in and Winston is shocked and he can't resist standing up and talking to him. The guard hits him in the elbow with a truncheon, and Winston is in a great deal of pain. I think he may have passed out because there was so much pain.
When Winston is out, he dreams of being tortured until he gets every last confession out and he is beaten with fists, boots, trunchoens, and metal poles. Is this symbolic of room 101?
