Poems written in book length format are a small genre and a very hard thing to pull off successfully.
Two very good examples are "At Grand Central Station, I Sat Down and Wept" by Elizabeth Smart and "Paterson" by William Carlos Williams.
Smart's book (which heavily influenced the Singer Morrssey who has "borrowed" a number of her lines most noticeably for "Late Night Maudlin Street") and Williams's book which is a celebration of his hometown in New Jersey are both groundbreaking IMO.
