I was about to start a new thread just for this one poem but really, what a waste- if I made a thread for every poem I ever want to share it would be ridicules. So I shall put all my poetry here. (^:
Looking Up
My neck cramped today
froze in place
blue sky constantly filling my vision
while people hurry about
heads down
feet framed by lowered eyes
rushing, rushing
never stopping to look up
where is he? Where is she?
Those who force people
to stop noticing only
their little square of ground
beneath worn feet
those people who make one look up
in awe
in honor
in respect
There are many in my life
I can't help to stare up at
and wish that I could be
one of those people
those people stare up at
not down
Where are those people
for the others?
We need more heroes
more heroines
not just average Joes
and Mary Janes
Going about there business
not touching this world
not sparking fires
saving lives
but we don't
we shuffle about
heads down, eyes flitting
from one nothing to another
When will we look up
to see our potential?
To see the sky

A bittersweet ode, indeed. The grimness of a blue sky going unrecognized, which reminds me of how similarly a bar crowd wouldn't bat an eye if a national poet walked in. Sigh.
I love the opening line. A smooth, wistful piece, overall.
We need to hold up placards with, 'Be compassionate, love your sky, look up for crying out loud!' ;)

Thank you, that is exactly what I was trying to say! I'm so glad it came across as I originated, sometimes a poem one writes doesn't always, you know what I mean?

blackness smothers the world
suffocating everything within its tendrils
reaching into corners
where shadows already hold ground
and out into open spaces
where sunlight usually dwells
but it is not there now
people run
with silent screams on their faces
but there is no place to hide
for everywhere darkness abides
daytime and the sun
forever abolished
never to return
evil grows stronger
it feeds on the anguish
it engulfs the grief and grows
creeping deeper
into the hearts of man
In the darkness a speck appears
no bigger then a mustard seed
pulsing, growing
slowly it reaches
through the darkness
through the pain
piercing the shadows
In silence it steadily saves
wrapping around the world
protecting and powering it
It fights against the darkness
it goes against the evil
it takes away the silent screams
replacing them with laughter
It grows and grows
until no longer is it minuscule
eventually as anguish becomes happiness
and death becomes life
the light will conquer
the dark
and one again,
we will live in the sun

I enjoyed reading looking up. It's thought provoking.

I especially liked Looking Up. So true, so true.

It has been said a rose is but a rose
All that’s pink cannot be called a beauty
But if a rose is nothing but a rose
Life’s succumbed to nothing but it’s duty
A single breath is nothing more than this
Lungs retract and then expand in motion
But truthfully if that is all it is
Than life is not but a repitition
If it is true a rose is but a rose
Than why strive to become anything more?
For we will be like arrows without bows
We cannot change; we have no way to soar
We will always be this and nothing more
If a rose is but a rose to the core.

Sitting at the crossroads at last
I must come to my decision
I’ve been told to forget my past
To look ahead with new vision
But how can I not glance behind
When my future gets provision
From all that in the past I find
Then look ahead with new vision
I’ve been told to go everywhere
For it’s the correct direction
I’ll leave my past and leave me bare
And look ahead with new vision

I am through dreaming
and wishing over again
I have lost all hope
