I can't be the only person over the "recommended" age to read such books that loves Roald Dahl, Sharon Creech, Louis Sachar, Katherine Paterson, etc etc can I?

I love Faerie Tales  Even if I'm too old to be reading them and manga books.

That's just the thing, how are you ever "too old" to do something? That's really silly :)

People just suppose you are, that's all.

All that "Act your age" non-sense.

i totally love Melvin Burgess. Only kids writer I've found who tells it like it is. And Wynne Jones. She's just brilliant sometimes.

I have admitted elsewhere to enjoying the books that Ursula Le Guin, Peter Dickinson & Joan Aiken wrote (still write, in at least one case) for children.

We should create a petition to get rid of those age recommendations. :)

I am well over 50 and only now am I really appreciating stories like ''The Grinch Who Stole Christmas'' and ''A Christmas Carol''.

Growing up in Brooklyn, NY I always loved the Three Stooges, Frankenstein-Dracula movies, and others. But now I love them more than ever!

Some wise person said years ago that all too often childhood is wasted on children. Know I know what he meant!!:) :) :)

The Nigel Molesworth books that I dog-eared and wore to pieces as a child are still some of my favourite things in the world.

Also, being 21 years old now, my friends and family seem to think I'm a bit old for The Muppet's Christmas Movie, but I will always picture Bob Cratchit as Kermit the Frog.

The funny thing is, 17 years old, I have still never seen half of the disney movies, such as Fantasia, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan.. I'm just now deciding to watch them ahah :) It's fun stuff though

Actually reading children' books is part of my job - children's librarinan. Some of the best books I have ever read are children's and young adult. Some of my favorites have been Shiloh, Baby Be-Bop, Full Tilt, The Eye, the Ear, and the Arm, Cirque Du Freak, which is a twelve book series by Darren Shan, and Inkheart which is a real pleasure for any book lover. The author Cornelia Funke quotes a famous children's book for each chapter. I do hope though she ends the trilology well. I am waiting for them to translate the third book. The second one Inkspell ended in a strange place.
Right now I have the difficulty of book overload. I have a pile of adult books I want to read but, the library also has just gotten in whole pile of new children's book that I also want to read.

I love Charlie and Lola books! ^_^
I make my boyfriend read me many childrens stories, I will never be too old for them.
I also read a lot of manga, and I watch Lazy Town now and them. Lmao.
I have a younger sister who I love to watch it with.
:)
But no one is too old for anything, and people should be proud that they love childrens books, and that they are still intact with their inner child. No one should really grow up, it is boring to grow up.
Hummm I sound like a Peter Pan fan here. :0

I guess I've never really been into contemporary children's books, but I do like a lot of older ones; it's interesting, however, that much of what we consider "grown-up" literature today was written for children. I believe Rayner Unwin's review of The Hobbit said it would appeal to all children between 4 and 9(!). Also, Hawthorne's collections of stories for children - A Wonder Book for Boys and Girls and Tanglewood Tales - are a lot of fun, I find. I think the only recent "children's" lit I've read, however, is Harry Potter, which I have mixed views on.

 I thought I was the only person who was into that; and I'm the youngest...
I really love watching Dora the Explorer because of its mind numbing qualities :)
