He niver goin’ t’ get a big bru-uthur innywhere about.”
“Why, wan day Sprout cames over to my fa-ather’s house,
Right nigh t’ same size as you sees him the-ere asleep;
An’ me old Da yelps that he’s seed a gre-en Divil or mouse!
Sich a monsther showed up t’ per-teck Spout! Lost all our sheep!”
“Ye dun belave me, na-ow, eh? Ye think t’ give me t’ lie?
Ye there, Jawn Hennessy? Think I’ve been at t’ grog?”
The speaker stuck two fingers in mouth and whistled, the Sprout gave a cry,
And a dark shadow covered the village like a bank of thick fog:
“Ho, ho, ho. Scaring my little brother on this day out of all days?
“It’s OK Kelly Sprout. They didn’t know t’was your birthday!”
