Lingering Scent of a Birthday

Thought I gotta up this morning and smelled the scent of Java,
And you know it’s strange because I usually don’t touch the brew.
But it came drifting on the wind and I could tell it was hot as lava.
So I got up and walked the Schnauzer and wondered what I’d do.
It’s not like I am unfamiliar with these things they call hallucinations—
But I almost always have the type that you can see or you can hear.
But one that produces a smell that isn’t there is a further complication.
And heaven knows I’ve been though enough tests to do me for the year.
So I came back into the house with shaky nerves, I made myself some tea,
And I settled back into my recliner with a book to enjoy the Earl Grey.
And I think that’s when it hit me, “It’s a memory, not something wrong with me!
“I seem to recall a guy I know and I’ll bet that this is his Birthday!”
It pleased me to no end to find I was correct and not crazy (yet!) you know!
Have the very best that life can bring you, Happy Birthday, CuppaJoe!
