Love and Relationships # 6
THE BREATH OF LIFE
The most wonderful girl
To ever draw the breath of life
How honored I would be
If she agreed to be my wife
We will navigate together
Through adversity and strife
To be parted from her love
Would cut me like a knife
I will take my place beside her
And we will make ourselves a life
The most wonderful woman
To draw the breath of life
How honored I was that she
Agreed to be my wife
We did navigate together
Through adversity and strife
To be parted from her love
Would cut me like a knife
I took my place beside her
And we have made ourselves a life
IN THE COMPANY OF ANGELS
If I am the first to go
I will wait for you in the place
Where the crowns of Angels glow
If I go first because I lost the fight
I will be waiting with the Father
Where the tunnel opens into light
If I am the first one there
I will await you in lush meadows
Where heady perfume fills the air
If I go first and leave you lonely
We will meet again in paradise
In our loved ones company
If I am the first to go, allay your fears
I will be waiting in the place
Where there are no more tears
If I go before you and we must part
I will wait for you in heaven
Where sweet music soothes the heart
If I am first to go we will meet again
In a far better place than this
Where God has banished pain
If I go first through the eternal door
You will find me with the angels
Where suffering is no more
If I am first to go by days or years
You will find me waiting there
Far beyond this vale of tears
GUARDIAN
She was only slight
And petite of height
Her complexion light
Her smile so bright
Her hair was brown
Her eyes looked down
She never wore a frown
But a halo for a crown
Her eyes were green
And her intellect keen
Her limbs lithe and lean
With the poise of a queen
An angel in human form
Protecting me from the storm
Her embrace both soft and warm
From despair I will transform
FROM THE SHADOWS
I stood in the shadows
As I had often done before
Out of sight, to see yet be unseen
To look upon that vision of loveliness
She talks with friends in the gardens
Unaware of me
Her skirt was long and green
From high waste to ankle low
Her crisp blouse of white
Enhanced to elegance of her neck
The long sleeves encasing her slender arms
Covered her fine boned wrists
Her hair was red
Red like burnished copper
Thick and full bodied tied back at her nape
Her eyes were the hue of polished emeralds
In a setting of perfect pale skin
No jeweller could ever hope to equal
Her mouth pale lipped, strong yet sensitive
When transformed into a smile
Illuminated her countenance
As if a light had been switched on
Perusal of every inch of her delicate frame
Returned echoes of a cultured creature
Dressed in the finest Edwardian elegance
More than a class above me
I step from the shadows
Returning unseen to my duties
WHERE, WHEN AND HOW?
Where did it go?
The sense of one
Feeling of togetherness
Of mutuality, symbiosis
Thinking each others thoughts
A consciousness shared
Breathing in unison
A single beating heart
Speaking in a single voice
When did it happen?
At what point?
Did we separate?
Torn asunder
Split like an atom
Dissected like conjoined twins
To Breath alone
Stop sharing one heart
Speak for ourselves
How could it be?
When I looked at her with love
A stranger looked back
Independent and solo
Individual and free
Thinking on a different plain
Breathing different air
Heart pulsing with a different beat
Speaking a foreign tongue
NEW LOVE
A New love, young love,
Fresh and in bud,
Exciting, Heart racingly so,
Though uncertain, exciting still
A Breathless love Full of longing
Eagerness to be together
Reluctance to part
Hand touching hand, Pulse raising
Heart full of love, Head full of doubt
“Do they feel as I?” “Am I just a fool?”
Will our love last?
Will it blossom and grow
Will it bare fruit?
Or wither on the vine
THE SEARCH
Since I was a young man,
Little more than a boy
I searched for it, my holy grail
The key, which will unlock me
The piece of the puzzle, which will complete me
My reflection, my soul mate
I looked everywhere
But no love at first sight
No lightning bolts, no electric shocks
I searched for years for my perfect other
But that’s not right I didn’t seek perfection
I didn’t have a set of criteria
Not Hair colour, eyes, height, shape
Accent, social background, interests or age
I didn’t have a vision of her
I didn’t even know what I sought
But when I saw her I would know
Not that I went hunting
I didn’t engage in quests or pursuits
I knew that if it was suppose to happen it would
If I were fated to be alone, then so be it
So I went about my living my life
Work, friends, family holidays in the lakes
And I had a very happy life
Not an empty existence
Just a feeling of incompleteness
One of the pleasures of life for me
Was inhabiting books shops
Proper bookshops with rows of leather and vellum
Shelves full of old friends
Dickens, Buchan, Lewis, Too many to name
One day I stood thumbing a well-read volume
And I dropped it to the floor inexplicably
I stooped to retrieve it
But another hand reached it first
As we both stood up
I breathed her scent then I met her gaze
And saw the smile on her lips and in her eyes
As she placed the book in my hand
Our fingers touched for the briefest moment
And a tingle of electricity passed between us
“Ah there you are,” I said to myself
UNAFFECTED
She was beautiful, elegant, graceful
She held herself with dignity and poise
Yet was unaware of her own attraction
At school, boys of her age, for want of her
Cried themselves to sleep, she was unaware
She turned heads and yet did not notice
This was not arrogance or even aloofness
She did not see herself as others did
It had always been so, Her innocence
Not that she did not date boys or even men
She was neither virginal nor chaste
She was chased and pursued but not caught
Her heart when given went to the one man
Who saw beneath as only a soul mate can
UNDER THE CLOCK
Suited and booted he sat waiting there
Perched on the edge of his seat, restless
He sat watching the great clock hands moving
Slowly as they ticked off the minutes
His palms sweated and his heart pounded
As he waited beneath the great clock face
He asked himself “what was he doing”?
A blind date what was he thinking, madness
He was too old for blind dates far too old
Why did he agree, what would they talk about
He wasn’t young, he wasn’t cool, he was
More Wilson Philips than Wilson picket
But there she was not too young and lovely
His mouth was dry and he felt a bit faint
“I was terribly nervous about tonight”
She said putting him straight at his ease
She slipped off her coat effortlessly
With an easy grace and elegance
When he took off his coat, he hit his arm
On the wall, hit a woman on the back
And knocked over a lamp, she laughed
Sympathetically and she bad him sit
KEEPSAKE
I keep your beauty in my eyes
Your vision adorns my mind
I keep the taste of you on my lips
Your sweetness taints my pallet
I keep your fragrance in my nose
Where it pervades my senses
I keep your tender tones in my ears
Your laughter fills my heart
I keep the touch of you on my skin
The warmth of you in my fingers
I keep the essence of you in my soul
I keep your love in the haven of my heart
