This is the second of three poems
I have written on the subject of
Alzheimers Disease. I tried to put
myself into the shoes of the sufferer
to see what life must be like for them
* * *
I once knew so many people
But so much in life has changed
As I struggle to maintain focus
It's like my mind's been rearranged
A man comes here to visit
As to why, I am not sure
But I don't recognise his face
I've never seen him before
I study him very closely
And there's a flash in my mind
He seems like such a gentle soul
With a face so warm and kind
These young children visit often
And they say "I love you Nan"
But I don't know who they are
Maybe they're related to that man?
In this place where I live
People shuffle here and there
Many sit alone in silence
Far into space they stare
Happiness has no place here
So many people come and go
Please tell me who I am
Because I'd really like to know
* * *
"Loneliness and the feeling
of being unwanted is
the most terrible poverty"
-Mother Teresa-
