Conducted In E Flat

I raise the baton and tap on my stand and the musicians ready themselves.
Up come the woodwinds in haunting melody, fairy steps running through woods.
A nod to the strings and the violins sing of the birds and mischievous elves,
We bring in the percussion with thunderous boom, Old Puck is up to no good.
Now the brass gives a fanfare of Tatiana arriving asleep in her soft bed of grass,
And the flute sent a call out for Oberon to follow to find his true love under spell.
Now sharp goes the music for Puck has substituted old Bottom with the head of an ***,
And the string cry out in anguish because Tatiana awakened, because of magic likes Bottom well.
Like arrows the brass and the woodwinds send warnings, Oberon arrives in anger,
And crash go the symbols and the spell is broken and Bottom becomes his own self.
Now the woodwinds again tell the story of flight, for Puck realizes his great danger—
And softly the strings play as tenderly the fairy folk kiss, and shower Bottom with wealth:
Then the tempo of the music changes at the conductor’s express request, eyes all anew:
“Happy Birthday, dear Symphony! Happy birthday day to you…!”
