Steinbeck's The Chrysanthemums

Just finished reading The Chrysanthemums and immediately thought of The Bridges of Madison County the movie, I haven't read the book. Was Bridges loosely based on Steinbeck's work?

I realize Elisa wasn't going to run off with the saucepan repairman but her character is very much like Francesca.
