I've noticed that many visitors to these forums stay and post about 12 times. Then they're gone. I haven't posted all that much, but there does seem to be very little follow-up from one post to the next. Are there just too many threads?

Not really, some people just move on, others stay and post like mad. (Just check my post number!)

I have more than 12 posts but for me, the reason why I come and go in spurts is because of school/vacation, work, and life. I would love to get on LitNet all the time but unfortunately don't always have the time. Right now I'm on Thanksgiving break. :)

I think its also possible that some people join and forget about it, or join and then decide its not something they want to do. Oh well.

I think a lot of people join to get answers to homework, or at least help with questions they have on assignments. When they find out others want to do their homework even less than they do they move on. Then again, a lot of people with high post counts move on too.

I'm going to try and get as much enjoyment as possible from my next 5 posts.

edit to say; I just thought of something, if I post again it will look like I can't do math...so this will be my last post.

Well, even though my posts and membership date don't show it, I've been browsing this site for a couple years. I've been content to read without responding; only recently have I felt compelled to post. As for most of the people who post a few times only never to be seen again, I think a lot of people come to this forum looking for homework help--not the love of literature.

This board is much better than many. There is a core of people who stay around, as Baky said, but there are others who leave. To each its own.

 I'll ditto all of the above, and add: no I don't think there are too many threads, the activity here is pretty typical of most discussion forums. And kinda related to all of this, I wrote a blog entry here about a year ago titled (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/blogs/viewblog.php?userid=2229&entry=132) "My Top 10 Forum Satisfaction Hints" :D

(oh, and I can't even remember why/how I ended up here, but I'm now stuck in the LitNet timewarp and definitely not one of those who just disappear after a while :p )

I found this forum, signed up then promptly forgot about it. About a year later I was loooking for a book club and came across this website again I couldn't remember my old username or password and have been here ever since.
