Where do the stories come from?

How does everyone hear of the stories of people being tortured until they confess and are then killed (in the dungeons of the Ministry of Love), if no one survives to tell the stories? Where do the stories come from if no one lives to pass them on?:confused:

Some people are carted out to the public before their execution (also public).

People will have disappear and never return, in cases where their imprisonment and death are inconvenient to the aims of the Party. But when they capture a thoughtcriminal who can easily take the fall for several horrible things in order to help placate the public, then he will.

And when people witness these people confessing, well... There's just some tell-tale signs of torture that would even filter through subconsciously.

Also: the party might be leaking these stories to inspire terror in all thoughtcriminals.
