For Dibby

I have a friend named Dibby in a land so far away,
A fledgling poet finally coming into a full set of poetic wings;
I may never meet my friend face to face, yet never is harsh to say,
For who can really know the future, or what the morrow may bring?
We poets are quite a family here, drawn together by rhythm of the words,
Taking turns at interpretation of a picture by using language as art.
Sometime we do some verbal sparing with sentences as our swords,
Always striving to build the other poet up, never tear their works apart.
I write a lot of poetry in various forms, but forms will never rule me;
Some rules can be bent to suit your need, others even broken .
The rhythm and the flow of the poem should be as a river to the sea,
The rules there as guidelines, beacons; movable not permanent tokens.
But today is Dibby's birthday, and I would now just give a poetry lecture:
Happy Birthday, mon ami! Your value is something beyond conjecture…
