Winston is telling Julia about a time when he and Katherine (former wife) went on a hike and got lost. At the end of his memory/story the narrator says And the thought struck him...
What does that mean?
Right before the story Winston and Julia are talking about sexual relations, but then right after Julia brings up the fact that Winston could have just killed Katherine.
