The Bombs

In 1984 they say that they think that maybe the bombs being dropped by eurasia or east asia arent actually being dropped by them. They think that they are being dropped the their government to keep the people scared. Is this possible?

It is possible, because BB might want to scare the people in preparation for hate week, but I believe that the bombs really are coming from the other nations, not BB.

Bombs are dropped by Party. They make the bombings, use propaganda to accuse Eurasia or East Asia and stays in ''war''. War is Peace rings a bell?

Yes. Think about it, say hypothetically the 9/11 attacks were done by America to drive our emotions and bring about a war. We would all be driven by fear and hatred to attack whoever did it to us. All we would need is an enemy to play as scapegoat.

In 1984, same principle. You are driven to defeat your enemies so they do not attack you again. It is a way to unite people. Not just under nationalism to unite and stand strong, but to drive them forward by fear.

this is exactly what I thought. My thought was that BB was dropping the bombs to scare the proles and keep them from growing or grouping. And as Winston says repeatedly throughout the book the hope lies in the proles. So if the proles are kept scared and there numbers limited then there is less chance for an uprising.

ok so i think that it is very well possible for the bombs to be dropped by Big Brother. It does make sense. I think it's a way to still have control over over the people and to scare them to keep them contained. but since BB doesn't have a problem with killing his own people, he would most likely be able to drop bombs on them to keep himself in power.:idea:
