Sometimes life is all we’ve got
Sometimes it’s too much
too much beauty
too much pain

A premature baby
abandoned in a forest glade

too much hope
a fresh, bracing autumn rain

a young hockey player
missing for fourteen years
found at last in a body bag

a message left on your answering-machine
from your grand-daughter

a friend we know only via the internet
beaten within an inch of her last hope
of love

too much ugliness
and the need for revenge
too much beauty
too much love
too much pain

Sometimes life is all we’ve got

Sometimes it’s too much.

Wow, I love it, it is wonderful! As I told you, I really think you have a unique voice, there is something in each of your poems which tells that it's from Jerry Newman.
The ending is great. I love how it escalates to the climax. I love it.

I often wonder why most choose to write poems. Poetry is a domain that moves one and all. Poetry is mostly written about things that have to do with the unconscious.
Here in this poem the poet is so much pervasive and his or her idea of life is what life is, all sided in point of fact.

Oh Prince, you have revealed the harshness of life. Many facets of life are still yet unseen and we just live our life hoping and praying for one fine day. Your poem is so deep and really touched my heart.

The following lines are really painful to hear :

A premature baby
abandoned in a forest glade

a young hockey player
missing for fourteen years
found at last in a body bag

The following lines left me speechless...really...I'm very much overwhelmed by following lines Prince :

a message left on your answering-machine
from your grand-daughter

a friend we know only via the internet
beaten within an inch of her last hope
of love

too much ugliness
and the need for revenge
too much beauty
too much love
too much pain

Sometimes life is all we’ve got

Sometimes it’s too much.

I couldn't stop the tears Prince....:bawling:

Really a good work ! Keep up your good effort Prince. :thumbs_up

With Love,
Dibyendra

This is just wonderful, PrinceMyshkin. So true! I especially liked this second half:

a message left on your answering-machine
from your grand-daughter

a friend we know only via the internet
beaten within an inch of her last hope
of love

too much ugliness
and the need for revenge
too much beauty
too much love
too much pain

This was wonderfully sincere and moving.
(You must've been reading Samuel Beckett.)
It was Edna St. Vincent Millay who gave us this line?:

"Life goes on
I forget just why"

Prince,

I am from the old rhyming school but very much enjoyed the stark and graphic reality of your words: life it is what it is and we can make of it what we will. And it really is "too much" sometimes.

Thanks,
Scube

So you should, too. It sums up the rubbish condition that we as a species have allowed oursleves to get in to. I partucluarly love that line about a firned on the internet, beaten with in an inch of her last hope of love.

some of those lines were like a sharp kick in the guts Prince and life can be like this indeed

Thanks, Prince, for sharing this masterpiece with us!
You've clearly written down what life is, which is vaguely in our subconscious!
I adore this one!

This is the second gutsy piece you've disinterred recently from the archive to assail our senses, Prince. A powerful poem. The controlled outrage speaks volumes.

Prince, you just made me cry and I must mean it since I admit it publicly. This is by the most beautiful piece of writing that I have seen in a while. It is touching and ugly (but not in a bad way) at the same time. I am melting here. Thank you for sharing this.

Reading this takes the breath away. I can't say much more without repeating what everyone else has already said - a powerful reality check.
