I thought it would be interesting to see just how far everyone is going each day to work. In light of some of the discussion regarding gas prices, I became curious how far you must go to work each day, but there are no graphs or average commutes that I could find online. So, where are you at, and how far must you go each day to work?
I'm a stay at home mom for a few more weeks, so I've no idea how far I'll be going yet. My husband goes 10 miles one way, however, and I can expect to go at least that distance. So far it is looking like I'll be going anywhere from 15 to 35 miles to work each day or between 24 and 56 kilometers one way every day.

I think I am somewhere between 10 and 15 miles from the office. I could be overstating a little.
I actually used to drive 60 miles too and from work (30 in and 30 back) and it was terrible.
I take an express bus to work everyday. Its probably around 30 miles each way and total travelling time can be anywhere from 1 hour to 2, 21/2 hours depending on traffic. It really sucks !!!

I drive 70 miles a day from my driveway to the parking lot(that's round trip) if there are no detours...lots of road construction right now. But I only work 4 days a week.
Now, if I get one of the jobs I've applied for, I'll have a 150 mile a day drive for 5 days for 7 weeks. But it'll be worth it in the long run.

I drive 15 miles each way. I had to check on mapquest because I wasn't sure.

I'm Actually not that far from work. Probably a 10/15 min drive by car. But the thing is i dont drive and there is no longer a direct bus to work from where i live, so i have to get the DART (train) into town and then the bus to work. It can take from 1.15hr to 2hrs for me to get to work.

I drive about 80km one way into work (currently in Orangeville & work in Missisauga) When I move it will be about the same but without the stupid traffic and gridlock

Wow, Niamh. That's a commute. I live about 35-45 minutes from work but because it's a tourist town, and there is so darn much construction going on, sometimes it take me an 1 1/2 hrs to get there. There is no mass transit of any kind so without a vehicle, it's hard to work in this area unless one lives close enough to walk or bike.

Yeah it sucks. I really need to learn how to drive and get a car, but there are new restrictions coming in for L drivers which would mean even though i have a car i would be able to drive on my own to work. I'd still have to commute.

I start every morning in New Jersey and commute to New York to complete my daily labor. It's between states, but only a 45 minute commute.

I live only four kilometres from the university (I'm a first year student, in five years I'll hopefully graduate and become a translator :)), so that is not too bad. BUT the problem is that I have to walk there every day, so it takes me 45 minutes every morning and another 45 minutes to get back home every evening. So, I spend 7,5 hours walking 40 kilometres every week
I used to go by bike, which was a lot faster, only 20 minutes to get to the university and 10 minutes to get back home. If you wonder why it took so much longer the other way, it is because of the fact that the way to my apartment from the university is just one big downhill. That is very nice when you are tired after a long day, but I sure cursed it every morning I had to cycle my way up there
Now it is winter and I'm not brave enough to ride my bike anymore because of all the ice and snow, so I'll just have to walk (though even that isn't very safe, since the paths ARE really slippery. I'll probably end up with a broken hip before the winter is over...)

I have about a 30 minute drive to work each day, but that is the price I pay for living in a forest area....
wouldn't have it any other way....
old logging road out from my place, to a small one lane paved road that turns into a small two lane, then a state highway into work...
Told a friend that if cable TV, pizza delivery or cell phone coverage ever made it to my place....
it would be time to move further back into the wilderness...

From school/home to work it is about 30 minutes on a good day (no traffic) it can actually double and be about an hour if there is. And driving back home at night sucks, they've been working on the freeways here at night forever, so sections and ramps get closed off in the evening...detours are not fun at 11 p.m.
