Are Julia and Winston in "love" or is it just the lust of breaking the rules.:brow:

I do not think they really share true love for each other, I think they just rebel in breaking the rules and going against Big Brother, and in the case of Winston I think it might also be a little physical lust

I am under the impression that Julia really does like Winston, but I think of their relationship as more of a rebellion. They both know that there is a risk in them having a relationship, but they do it anyways. It is also quite clear that they are both completely against the rebellion. Also, as Winston put so clearly at the end of one of the parts, a "political act."

They both like to break the rules, and want to rebel. They are almost a perfect match. But under the same train of thought, they ARE rule breakers and would probably be better described as a rule breaking pair than a couple.

I would not really consider them to be a perfect match, as though they do share the common bond of wanting to break the rules, there is really little else they share between them.

Juila is imature in many ways particuarly compared to Winston, as one person put it, she is just out to have a good time, but Winston is not content with just that. As Juila as told Winston she has done this many times before but nother is really imporant to her, she does not care about the consequences, she does not think it really matters if she gets caught or not, she does not think it is even imporant if the Party is defeated or not, all that matters to her, is her acts of rebllion.

But Winston is a bit more contemplative then that. He is not content or happy with the state of things and though he lusts for Juila and she is his partner in crime so to speak, he wants something bigger then just thier affair together.

This is a good question. Like Winston says, when they were in the opening in the woods the first time it was just for rebellion but now after the second and third times i think they are growing closer and closer to each other. so to answer you question i think they are in love and want to rebel at the same time.

I believe it starts out as rebellion, but they end up developing true feelings. This is the signifigance of Room 101, when Winston breaks from fear of the rats and denounces Julia. It is at that moment, and thereafter, that his humanity is gone.
