We are items on God’s list
of things that he forgot to do.

No Mr. cynical, that's not it at all. If man would but consider the needs of others and compromise the world would be a different place. Perhaps it is God on man's forgotten to do list.

But surely, Ms True-believer, my conjecture is as valid as yours?

I would have to say that it is, but then again any conjecture is valid to the one who wonders. Could we be forgotten? Yes. Is that the most likely answer? Only as likely as you believe. I suppose it is my nature to look within myself for what is wrong and at God for what is right, not the other way around.

You know I'm a sucker for theological argument, but in a general way and in this case because of my respect and affection for you, I ask myself: Am I so sure of my position that I would dare risk depriving you of something so central to your view of reality and of your well-being?

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of a spanking but I know I would need Mother and Granny to hold you down. ;)

Jer, as I told you I was surprised in the beginning when I saw this poem because here you refer to God and his duties whereas you usually reject his existence. This is interesting to me. I think I agree both with you and Tonya. But, about what Tonya said, there is just one thing that bugs me:
I suppose it is my nature to look within myself for what is wrong and at God for what is right, not the other way around.
I think it could be 50/50, no? Or maybe not. It depends on how we see things. Maybe God is responsible for some things, or maybe he just let free choice to human beings and then we are responsible for whatever happens. I don't know.
Oh, now about that:
Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of a spanking but I know I would need Mother and Granny to hold you down.
Spanking my Jerry? :p I think I must be the one doing that. :D No?

ABSOLUTELY! No one is to spank me or administer any other sort of punishments or, um, rewards but YOU!
In the end the true power may lie with him or her who does not seek power as an end in itself.

I am thinking of a very acid reply, but it may take me some time. In the meantime perhaps you ought to get on with writing either your puce or your fuschia poem?

I'm not sure. I don't think I agree. The good guys, even with bad ideas, are still good beyond the bad idea. One can make mistakes and learn from them. Plus, what is a bad idea to someone might be a very good one to someone else. So, we cannot really say that anyone has had a 'bad idea'. ;)
Men with nothing but evil in their hearts, however, are scarier. To me anyway.

I am operating here on the premise that there are certain inherently "bad" ideas, e.g., let's destroy everyone who does not think/look/dress or smell as we do... Of course these will seem like good or at least necessary or useful ideas to some, but I'm not speaking to those.
And the premise of my observation is that what is perceived to be good or admirable in a certain man might lend authority to a bad idea he happens to hold.

I agree with what you say here. However, as you say, we must not forget that any bad idea will always be a good one for someone. But I must say that the ideas you referred to are bad, I agree, even if we must be careful not to become intolerant. Ah, it's difficult.
The second part of your comment is great, I agree!
