I was poking through google news and found an article about this site FreeRice.com. You simply pick a vocabulary level, and by answering multiple choice vocab questions, you donate rice to the world food program. Every correct answer equals ten grains of rice funded by the website's sponsors (Macy*s, AmX, Apple, etc...). They've already raised enough rice fo feed 50,000 people for one day. I thought it was an excelent idea and figured I'd share. :) I've been playing all day.

Whoo! 1030 grains! That's actually very addictive.

Yup. About 8000 grams today.

We are thinking now if and how it would be efficient to write a program that would automatically answer those questions, perhaps using some kind of dictionary to make this more effective.
Only...we can't. Which kind of sucks.
Ah well, they probably will start using protection against bots or something because bots aren't influenced by adverts.

I think this is a GREAT idea and I've been "playing" a little in my spare time... but how can we be sure that it's true? How do we know for sure that they really are donating so-and-so grains of rice to fight hunger?

Well, trust we call it. And anyway, it's not a bad source of boosting up one's vocabulary as well! :p

I also figure google news puts out valid stuff. But hey, you can never know for sure. It's fun either way. :)
