The Slaves Of Mind
by mazHur
Who says slavery has ended?
It has only transformed
from physical to mental state;
everyone is a slave--
a mental slave of something-
something like a bubble in mind
that floats on water
trying to fly away
then suddenly bursting.
All are slaves, you and I,
of some idea,
some doctrine, some theory,
dogma and notion.
Beliefs like bubbles
are our masters
and we live in them
like wretched slaves!

I agree with you completely because we are slaves unto ourselves.

I agree that we all are slaves to something, I just wouldn't end the list at dogma and theory. I fear some worship at the alter of the TV set, escepially during sports, some are slaves to exercise or beauty, some to trying to figure everything out, to account for everyting in some way. Why waste the time? Que sera, sera. If you can't explain it, fine. No one ever said we had to understand everything. Live! Good poem! http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l108/AbsalomKane/Smilies/Appaluse.gif

Yes, I agree that we can be slaves to ourselves. Sometimes we wish we could do something but our personality impedes us to do so.

But none, perhaps, are so enslaved as those who believe they are! On the other hand, as Spinoza said, "We are free only to understand that we are not free."

I loved your thoughts Mahjur. I loved the following lines most :
It has only transformed
from physical to mental state;
everyone is a slave--
a mental slave of something-
something like a bubble in mind
that floats on water
trying to fly away
then suddenly bursting.
These lines left me pondering for a moment. Thank you for sharing.

Your work seems to be improving which each new attempt.
About the idea of this poem: methinks you are on to something here. Sometimes I think the people in my country -- which I love -- are slaves to materialism.
