I'm about to read some Merejkovsky and I'm looking for Bely, but he's pretty hard to find (in french more so, I will probably just get them in english). I was wondering if anyone read the russian symbolists in general, what recommendations on authors or particular works (I have Tutankhamen by Merejvkosky and will get Petersburg and Silver Dove to start with Bely).
Also if people have any knowledge about russian symbolism, a discussion about it could be very instructive.
hm... if you want, you can read some of Alexander Block, especially his "Poems About a Beautiful Lady", and Anna Ahmatova, only I can't tell if they're translated into French or English.
well, the first thing I remember about Russian symbolism is that theywanted to show life through some symbols and many of them were thinking much about death.
the second thing about them is that they seek for an everlasting womanhood and they said that the art is the way to a human's soul.
Something like that)

Alexander Block is a must-read on this topic, you can also try Valeriy Brusov, Anna Akhmatova (her early verse) actually symbolism is one of the richest periods in Russian literature (poetic literature) I am sure there must be some books on Russian Symbolists.

I read Petersburg by Bely and loved it the first time around. I'm looking forward to a reread of it. I'd also be interested in reading other Russian Symbolists as well.
can smb tell me what is Petersburg about and what time period it covers? I really want to read it but smth always stops me.
