It's an article about those who refuse to serve in the IDF, tell me what you think of it :)
I think that the service in the army should be optional. As a democratic country, Israel should respect its citizens' ideologies and beliefs, and thus mustn't force them to do anything that contradicts their beliefs.
As for Arab citizens specifically; I totally disagree with the idea of them being obliged to serve in the army, for several reasons.
For one thing, the Arab citizens in Israel aren't considered and treated as 100% citizens of it; they're not getting all of their rights as a minority, in addition to the high level of discrimination they're facing every day in many fields. So how can I –as an Arab citizen- serve in the army of a country that doesn't treat me as an equal citizen of it? Why would I serve in a country that doesn't give me all of my rights as a citizen? It's an absurd!
For another thing, how can I –as an Arab Palestinian citizen- help the army attack my own people? Isn't it ridiculous to help an army attack my own people that I belong to? I think it is ridiculous….
Further more, I think the things the IDF are doing in Gaza Strip, and the West Bank are so horrible and cruel, and I as a human would never consider serving in an army that treats the Palestinians as if they weren't human beings by attacking their homes, schools and the citizens of them, or by making them suffer at the barriers.
In conclusion, I'd say that this topic is very sensitive, and that nothing is absolute right or wrong, and that's why the Israeli government should make the service in the army exempt for those who don't serve in it for ideological reasons… it's a democratic country, and it's its duty to respect and even protect its citizens beliefs and ideologies!
