Well, first i would like to know what the significance of the Four Ministries, which are the Ministries of Truth, Peace, Love, Plenty.

Also, what is "Doublethink?" I think was reading and i saw that and i thought that it had to do with flashbacks or remembering the past. I'm not completing sure on what "doublethink" is.

One more thing. It has to do with hate. I understand what hate is but in the but in the book it says "The next moment a hideous, grinding, screech, as of some monstrous machine running with out oil, burst from the big screen at the end of the room. it is the noise that set one's teeth on edge and the bristled hair at the back on one's neck. The hate had started." Why would anyone want to listen to such a horrible noise?

Well, the ministries (minipax, miniluv, minitrue, and miniplenty) are significant in the fact that they do the exact opposite as their names imply. :rolleyes: For example :banana: the Ministry of Peace is really in charge of fighting the war. :brickwall: And the Ministry of Truth is making all the propaganda. :sick:

Doublethink is the Newspeak word for reality control. :idea: It is best shown in the party quote " Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past" :alien: This basically means that if you are in power than you can write the history books and thereby change the past. The people will think that the past predicts the future. But you are telling the people want happened in the past so you are in a sense making the future. :confused:

The grinding noise :eek2: is just to cause irritation among the workers. :crash:
If the workers are irritated then they will probably become enraged faster at the daily 2 minutes of hate. :flare: If they become enraged then they will be united in their hatred :rage: and that is exactly what Big Brother wants.

What King Pupitar said about the ministries is true. They do the opposite of what their name would imply. But the Ministry of truth Is also in charge of making changes to the past, As you see from winstons Job. The ministry of plenty is there to ensure that people Have just barely enough to survive (the reasons why are found later in the book, specifically in "Goldsteins book") Ministry of Love is in charge of the war, and ministry of love (I would say) is in charge of reforming/torturing people.

From what we were told in class that double think is the ability to think two things and believe that both are true. Like, you believe and think what the party wants you too, but you also think things may not be the way the party intended. (sorry if I confused you)

And the last part I don't know how to explain.
