Now, that I know that Animal Farm was written before 1984, I understand Orwell's thinking much better. I am constinity seeing similarities between the two books, but feel like I am the only one. In class we have been talking about the actual details in the book, and the point I have just made, really has never came up.
Reasons why I believe Animal Farm and 1984 are similar:
1) war
2) making us (Americans) dig deep into thought and see how are government is being run
there are just a few important ones above, but there are many more.
I would like to know what you think...
I am always, while reading 1984 thinking back to events in Animal Farm, and how they are both similar.
Please give feedback
Thanks

You're right, the two books are very similar - both examples of totalitarianism, secret police, right down to the changing enemies.
I think Orwell was really concerned that a totalitarian regime would arise on the "Allied" side, which is why he re-emphasised the message in 1984.
The other thing to beware of is that while they are similar, they do have completely different premises. Animal Farm was a direct allegory on the Russian Revolution, while 1984 goes far deeper into human psychology.

I thought after i read Animal Farm and began 1984 i felt like they were similar, they pin-pointed a target for hatred to unite them, but as they do this, they are total lies. I have thought that another reason they are alike is that in the end, they were actually worse in the end...like how napoleon ruled as a very powerful leader, and he was basically the new Jones...and in1984, Winston is getting into the point where hes asking people if they are better off now or before. They both come down to a simple answer, No. One more similarity is that the leaders are keeping the societies dumb enough to the point they are obeying the authority of thier leader and ask NO questions, they arem't skeptical about how they are being ruled. And in like terms, proles and the blue collar workers(the uneducated animals in Animal Farm) are the same.So theirs your long answer too your question:D
