I sat outside the café, smoking, sipping my espresso,
reading the Sunday NY Times Book Review section
and dying for some conversation, preferably with a woman.
None presented themselves
but there were two at a nearby table
engaged in animated conversation
so as I got up to leave I stopped at their table,
excused myself for interrupting them
and asked if they would give me a word
- any word - to take away with me.

They stared back at me in puzzled amusement, unable to answer for a time.

"Come on," I said, "I could see
that you two had plenty of words between you.
Just give me one... any one..."

After some more deliberation,
one of them said, with a smile, "Mystery"
upon which I thanked her and exchanged names with them:

Laure & Sarah.

One other example of the way you capture things that usually pass by. Also representative of the interesting encounters you make. Touching, too. I like it.

So you dying for something, to be associated with
Left mystified, estranged and discontentedly.
Do nod despair, my friend, you can come acrsss another pair
To of course to demystify yourslef,
For this world is too big, and it is impossible not to meet similar minded.

If the flower and the bee are in the same state of minds,
Of course no one goes discontented.
For every thing revolves, goes circularly
The way the whole planetary system goes on and on,
Indeed you will have your days
with all your days blooming

Do not get hooked on to a state of disappointment
My friend, silver linings will of course be visible after a day of cloud

Mysteries will have to submit to revelations
They have no choice.

A good choice. What fun would there be in life without mystery?

This is wonderful in itself and all the more so as a conversion of my monologue into a conversation!

Did either of those women think, I wonder, that my approach to them was some guy's attempt at a novel way to pique their interest? It wasn't. It was just my audacious solicitation of a gift from a perfect stranger to compensate for my loneliness.

I think I would have taken any word that Laure provided as a sign, much as I used to reach at random for one of several books of quotations I had on the desk before me, open it at random and put my finger on some quotation or other, look at it for a clue as to what I was feeling or might think about...

Nice, but if you don't mind...

Meaning that you saw it more as prose? How cunning of you inasmuch as it was exactly that, lifted from a PM I wrote my surrogate mother here on the site!

Well Prince, most guys premise their question or comment to me with, "I'm really not trying to make a pass at you, but...."
It's cause I look so doggone eager. Ho hum. See, we just can't win.

:D
Or a prose poem perhaps. But yes, it sounds quite prosy and a nice little piece of prose should be prose and proud I say.
