Lackluster’s Pet Shop
Saw a dog in the window at Lackluster's Pet Shop
Barking his fool head off, and howling like mad.
Ain't nobody gonna buy a dog like that anyway—
Did them a favor and shot him for free.
Came back two weeks later by Lackluster's Pet Shop,
Had ferrets running all around in the window box.
Ain't nobody needs a furry snake on four legs,
The D-Con I put in did the trick just fine.
Came 'round again to Lackluster's Pet Shop,
And got cussed out by some large red-feathered bird.
I ain't the man to take no one talkin' 'bout my mother like that—
Bird was dang good with stuffing and cranberry sauce.
They had big 'ol rabbits in the window of Lackluster's Pet Shop,
An’ I just might have let 'em alone.
But with the prices they have these days on huntin' licenses,
I just had to fill up my small game tag...
They finally closed down Lackluster's Pet Shop,
But that window's never empty you see.
It's plumb full of haints every time I come by,
Ghostly animals staring and glaring at me...

Disclaimer: As I have in the house as pets: 1 Dog (Izzy), 1 Cat (Taz), 1 Rabbit (Buggsey McHare), 1 Painted Turtle (Firebelly), 1 Rat (Spock) 3 Hamsters ( Monk, Tommy Tailspin, and Ash), 1 Gekeko (Crocky), and I think 5 tree frogs (Jabba, Two-Tone, Tigger, Abbot, and Riven) you can be sure no animals were harmed. I quit hunting years ago except with a camera!
