Rainbow Runner

I travel
far and wide
need no passport
no visa, no immigration
no security check
yesterday I was in London
today I am in LA
tomorrow........
well, I'm not sure
Unfortunately
I can't plan my schedule
I cannot fix my itinerary
someone else has to do it for me
someone
whom I cannot summon
who comes when it wills
he's a moody visitor
timeless,space-less
flies without wings
does all things
as he wants
how he wants
when and where he wants
I cannot govern him;
he's as stubborn as a horse
you can bring him to water
but cannot make him drink;
yet he has no boundaries,
no self-interest
though adamant and spasmodic;
tomorrow I want to visit my love
who lives on the moon
but that rogue,
that omni-potent friend of mine
that disobedient aide camp
is to be found nowhere!
maybe he's on some other errand
or maybe he's forgotten his way home
the night is getting over
it's past time for sleep
and that rogue
that imp of a dream
has not come yet
I know he might come
to fix my schedule
and lead me to my beloved
in my rainbow, in my vision
beyond time and space
as soon as I close my eyes
and fall asleep.
