Hey every body, what does your sig/avatar mean to you?
My current one is that of my favorite author Stanislaw Lem.
My old one, the pirate one, was an inside joke related to an odd ocurance in english 30.

yeah... I guess you have a problem with your space bar there Emily. :D
Ender, it's cool! :thumbs_up
I stole this avatar while I'm sneaking in somebody's web page. Originally, it says 'I know you were here' in Korean, encouraging people to leave their mark in any ways.
A friend of mine let me know this quote as 'Minds and parachutes, two things that won't function if not open', and I found http://www.initforlife.com/home/frames.asp not knowing it's there. :)

My sig is a statement made by a great writer which I like to remind myself from time to time.

would you be so kind, crisaor, as to translate your sig to english for me, so i have a clue?
the origin of my sig is a hotly debated topic in some circles. i found it online and understood it to be anonymous, but elsewhere it has been credited to a songwriter by the name of Erik Dillard. i have yet to find the song, or the songwriter for that matter, but the quote struck me immediately as capturing precisely the feelings that my boyfriend and i share; the joy we feel in finding each other, and the exclusivity of that feeling. how rare it is.
my avatar was originally a cool pic, but i had to cut it down to make it the right size for an avatar. here is the original if you are interested (i think ive posted this before, but again, if anyone knows how to shrink the image without losing too much quality, let me know!)

YAY! :D  You're always welome, VB.
and now we have a full size vbm's avatar...what's next? men landing on the moon? :D:D:D
My signature is a line from a song of The Cure, called Open... I put it there on a time when I was very depressed but I still don't feel like changing it cos I find it poetic and anyway somehow fitting... Maybe cos I'm still in Cure-phase ;)
My avatar is the cover of the album Violator by Depeche Mode, probably their best known album...and since they are my favourite band, I thought this can represent me. Also, I find it's a very beautiful image. I sometimes think of changing it, but I made such a mess to get this one the right size (thx den out there! *waves*)...

I hope you can understand it. It's easier to translate that way. :p
My signature is a quote from my favorite Jedi master: Yoda. It is an important philosophy for life and one I have embraced: Do not fear! Fear is the cousin of hate. When you follow fear it will only lead to the darkest hate imaginable...
My avatar is a charming icon of Kurama, aka Youko; from the anime Yu Yu Hakusho.

My sig line is also from Yoda. It's the only line from the movies that I could think of at the time besides "If this is a couselor's ship where's the Ambassador" but the Yoda quote just seemed cooler.
My avatar is of course Charlie Brown because that's how I feel on some days. Good Grief!
Er...what's Yoda?
I like that statement about fear&hate, it's really deep.

I love Charlie Brown! It's philosophical and whimsical at once.
Yoda is a character from the Star Wars movies; I think he first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back. He is a wise master teaching his pupil how to control his powers to use for good. It's such a great story!
No avatar right now, obviously, partly because I'm lazy and partly because I don't know if I would be able to put one on. My signature, as well as the word "nome", comes from a great juvenile trilogy by Terry Pratchett, about little creatures called nomes who live in a store which they believe is the entire world. Arnold Bros. (est. 1905) is the "god" who created their world and put "All Things Under One Roof"! The books are really funny and have real insight on human nature.

That sounds awesome. I love Terry Pratchett. I'll have to read them -- what's the trilogy called?

Sorry, it's called the Bromeliad Trilogy: Truckers, Diggers, and Wings. It was just republished here in the U.S., both separately and in a single hardcover volume; however, if you can find them read the separate books published here in 1990 (I think), because I noticed when I bought the new editions as a gift that some of the words are changed slightly, for no apparent reason except the publishers thought it was more "Americanized" or something. Try the library; that's where I first found them.

Yay! Now I have an avatar! These are two of the giant birdies outside of the Nelson-Atkins Museum here in Kansas City. On another thread I was trying to figure out how to post another picture of the museum and the birdies and realized I could use this one for my avatar. What do you think?

Glad to, ladies. Even so, I fear you won't find it as interesting as I do.

Ah, I love Spanish. I'm thinking of minoring in it, but I'm worried that I may have been placed in a class too advanced for me for my first semester...we'll see
*Try the library*--that was a smart comment, wasn't it? Where else would you go? Oh well, tell me what you think of them if you read them.

I have yet to find a sig line that really fits me. I've toyed with a couple but ultimately decided they were silly so now I'm without one. I continue to search for one that really captures what I would like to say and I have hope that some day, I'll find one.
My avatar is an emblem created by J.R.R. Tolkien for the character of Idril. I discovered a site (http://www.forodrim.org/gobennas/heraldry/heraldry.htm) with all the emblems he created and I've had Idril's device by my side ever since.

Wow-- I can't believe that came from Tolkien. For some reason, it reminds me of Native Americans and and all these images of reservations, pottery and hand made tools come to mind...(feathers, buffalo etc..) I was way off!!!
Thanks for the link to that site -- though. Very interesting.

my signature and avy are from a Grateful Dead album called American Beauty..
Just i choose mine by things that effact me at the moment.. guess this mean nowdays it's the Grateful Dead..
the first of my sigs - the one in Latin - means "i am a purple-headed llama", and came about as the result of my getting bored in Latin class :). the second one came from paging through a dictionary to look up a word and finding that there was actually a plant called a "subshrub". i found this incredibly amusing. i know not why. but it is now my signature.

Both my Avy and my sig are from one of my all time favorite movies, Raging Bull. Although I've been thinking of switching it up lately....

I know, I think it looks Native American as well and I think that's one of the reasons why I like it so much. For me, it's the 'spokes' that do it, they look like feathers to me.

My current avatar is...well, the most handsomest and dread pirate ever to live...me!:D
and my sig is a combination of a memorial to Stanislaw Lem, my most favourite author, and my personal pirate "colours".
The quotation about faith is By Stanislaw Lem, and the Colours announcement is just a heads up ;)
as for the HiJaCkEd...tis a long story, and my catch phrase so to say.

Hehe, I thought it was Native American, too :)
Hmmm...my avy is something my boyfriend found while surfing the net and it made him think of me, it's hard to see though with the resizing, in my opinion. I like dragons, the last dragon-book I read was about a red dragon, and as cliche as they are, I like red roses...so it was just pretty...
My sig is a quote that my mom used to have framed on the bathroom wall when I was a kid, lol. It just sticks with me, and I think about it when making decisions and when taking into consideration the experiences of others during good-natured arguments...
