My Young Teacher
by mazHur

Here comes smiling my teacher young;
she's just finished her college and got her degree;
clever and adept at teaching new things-
even forgotten things- to old dogs like me

With the missionary zeal she possesses
she has made me stand up erect again
to walk, eat, drink and be merry
despite my weakened limbs and bones

I can easily lift my little finger now
at the first glimpse of the statue of Venus
I can even behold better, much better
the contours of her beauteous frame

My teacher taught me to ride again
the fleeting steed of ruthless joy
I felt like a sporty teenage kid
with a fairy around to teach and toy

O what a wonderful teacher I've got;
she's made me fall in love with her;
I kiss her hands and lips and all
like a moth kissing a fire aflame

Time she seems to hold in her hands
and makes me feel ever rejuvenate
Thanks to you, my sweet maturing teacher
for teaching new tricks to this old dog again!

And here I thought you were just a young thing. I wonder just how old a dog you are. ;) I like the poem. Not sure if you were trying for a particular rhyme pattern or not, as some stanzas have it and others do not. Maybe THAT is the pattern.
And the subject matter, I understand. Just last night I talked a young friend into singing with our choir again. Her youth will add the spark we need.

Hi Amp
A lion may grow old and lose his teeth but don't forget he still has paws!
Thoughts have no boundaries. They can penetrate anywhere, anytime, anyone. What if she's young!
I just read your profile --a teacher of hula--BTW do you live (young?) in Hawai ?
thanks for liking the poem. It has no fixed pattern, just fun!lol
