Her bravest children
Stormy night.
Cold gusts of wind rushed
Carrying the grave sighs of thousand souls,
the trees groaned
with all the remorse of a moribund man,
burying everything my mother's shrill voice
sundered the bleak shroud of clouds.
And soon the sea's triumphant howls
savoured them with utter relish.
'We are her bravest children, son.'My father said.
'She feeds us and loves us the most.'
He would say, casting the net neatly,
with a smile that could dim the sun.
The sea wanted her children back
and my father did not return.
The sky kept weeping and seagulls flew in flock,
announcing the arrival of another doomsday.
My brother had gone out to ride the sea,
he prayed,'Bless me God,let the sun shine again,
so that I can feed them all, amen.'
Sun glowed red and sea turned blue.
My brother was gone forever.
Again the sea roared wild
I could see the heaven's eye seeking us in vain,
from the shores that seemed more distant than
the scarlet dreams.
A crack,then a deafening thunder,
the sea ushered us into her dark womb.
The waves smothered me in
as I saw a shabby woman standing forlorn
on a washed out yard-
another deep tranquil sea
with frozen blue waves.
