Somebody recommended a book to me, trouble is I think I read it but I'm not sure. The title is familiar but I can't remember anything about the story.

Does this happen to anyone else? I've been toying with the idea of keeping a database for the books I've read but then it seems like that might be too anal for my taste. Does anybody have a system?

I often think of doing something like that too, cos it's so frustrating to know I've read a book but not remember anything...
I'm far too lazy and undisciplined to keep a record, but at least my memory has improved when I started reading with a pencil...marking bits I liked and putting at the beginning of the book things like key-words, so that if I just pick up the book again I remember the main feelngs... I think I started doing it when reading stuff for school in order to remember it months later when I had to revise..

I trained myself to not forget stuff in the novels we were asigned by reading a chapter and then trying to see how I would direct this chapter if I was making a movie, It worked really well for me.

I never forget a book, like I never forget a face. But I always forget what happened in the book, the same way I can never remember peoples' names. Although years and years later I'll still remember tiny snippets of things -- I mean I'll get an image in my head and think, "is that somewhere I've been? Oh, no, it's a scene from a book I read." But I won't remember what book it was or what it was about. The weird thing is, that never happens to me with movies, for instance. I think I have more memories of stuff that never happened than from things I've actually seen. :p

 I can forget a face within 2 hours, but I can remember for years a name I've heard once... I know lots of names of authors I've never read, just cos I heard the name... I still remember all the names of people at primary school, and birthdays too... I'm haunted by birthdays, even of people I haven't seen for 10 years (though lately I tend to forget them on the right day oops ;))

(Off topic already?;))

Oh Stan, that movie thing...uhm not sure it'd work for me, but I can try :)

I always forget names. I think I'm like a guy around shiney objects when I get introduced to people. As soon as I hear the words "Danielle I would like you to meet...." I think my brain flees to some remote world until i hear "Hi nice to meet you.."

I never forget a book I have read, and keep a basic knowledge of what the books are about. I do have this little notebook and I have it broken into months of the year, and I write down what books I read during that month. Not really as a memory thing, but more as something to look back on.
