There is the Stanley Yelnats' Survival Guide to Camp Green Lake if you are looking for a book about Holes. Or are you looking for something to compare Holes to? Won't Know Till I Get There by Walter Dean Myers is also about kids finding they way together. There is also Libby On Wednesday which is about a writing club at a school by Zilpha Keatly Snyder.
