Initially starting at a meal between Roy Orbison, George Harrison, and Jeff Lynne, they got together at Bob Dylan's studio (Santa Monica, California) to record an additional track as a B-side for the single release of Harrison's "This Is Love". Tom Petty's involvement was by chance as Harrison had left his guitar at Petty's house. The song they came up with was "Handle with Care". However, the record company immediately realized it was too good to be released as a single "filler".
They enjoyed working together so much that they decided to create an album together. Written by all its members, the album was recorded over a ten-day period because Dylan was due to go on tour. Released in October 1988 (under various pseudonyms as half-brothers, supposed sons of Charles Truscott Wilbury, Sr.), the album Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 was in 1989 ranked #70 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 greatest albums of the 1980s. It was later nominated for a Grammy under the category Album of the Year. The death of band member Roy Orbison (on December 6, 1988) prevented further full collaborations; however, the band continued without him. The band even finished the video for "End of the Line". In the scene where the verse is sung by Orbison, the viewer is shown Orbison's guitar in a rocking chair followed by a photo of the late artist.

Roy Orbison was in it but he died.

I love the band. George Harrison always had the sweetest voice.

Me, too. I was really amazed when I heard of them for the first time; and now I see they've gotten on veoh! :) Good for them.

I remember when they released their first song. That was such a big thing in my house because of my one brother and my mother. Other than the combination of the 4 Beatles, this is the ideal band for my brother (with the exception of Roy Orbinson, though). My mother always had an obsession with George!
"Handle With Care" is so classic. That just reminds me of my childhood! :)

I remember that there was a traveling wilberry's but somehow the only thing that comes to mind is "I got my mind set on you and it's gonna take money a whole lotta spendin money" and I am pretty sure that was a George Harrison solo project. But the traveling wilberrys put out a song, and I think there was a video even. and I think there was midwest scenery involved in that video. but it's late and I am old, and we all know time skews the past sometimes.
what is the answer? I identifed Tom Petty, but that's no great feat. I'm American and I watched a lot of MTV back in the day when they played music video. Is that such a crime?
Have I rambled too long?

It was a solo song for George. I can remember that there were 2 different videos. There was the one that was played the most where he was sitting in a library, I think. There were all these objects that could move in there. The second one, I think, was the UK version. It may have been black and white or had very pale colors. It was with this boy and girl watching footage of him singing "Got My Mind Set On You".

I remember watching the first of him in the library but not the second one.
I love the song, but I love most of George Harrison's song. I really like his voice from the early day, Something, While my Guitar Gently Weeps, Here Comes the Sun....

Yeah, that other one, I think, they showed first and VERY rarely. I vaguely remember it. That is why I think it was the UK version. Just not positive, though.
Oh, "Something"!!! **SWOONS**
My #1 song of George while with The Beatles!! Favorite lyrics are "Somewhere in her smile she knows/That I don't need no other lover" It is insanely good! After all, you know a song is pretty great when Sinatra says that it is the best love song of all time!
I am pretty stuck on "It's All Too Much", though, and I really couldn't tell you why! It is one of those songs that I listen to repeatedly! Still not as good as "If I Needed Someone", though.
Favorite solo George number is "Love Comes to Everyone" There is NO reason for a song to be THAT GOOD!!! That is his best (it even is above his Beatles songs for me!)
