I'd never heard of this work until I was browsing Criterion's website and saw that the critically-acclaimed film adaptation directed by John Huston and starring Albert Finney is set to be released on DVD later this month. I began looking into it, and the novel sounds like a truly fascinating read. Can anybody here give me any insight into it?

it all happens in a single day, mostly utilizes stream of consciousness. lovely mexican travelogue. lots of flashbacks. main obstacle are the political issues.
