This is what happens when an otherwise highly intellectual, educated, overly religious talent gets carried away, and becomes lost in its own self inflicted verbosity. Add to this the influence of early 18th century writings, and you arrive at Pope's Essay on Man.

Try reading his own explanations of his epistles, and you will probably conclude as any sane person, that is someone who does not see a dauby mass on a canvas in a reputable gallery, and pretends it depicts some meaningful artistic expression of an aspect of life, and you will no doubt conclude as I - that he, Pope, didn't really know what the he*l he was rambling on about for so long.

That is just my humble, but honest opinion

Of course, if your reason for 'need to know' is to satisfy some Academic exercise, you can't say that.
