A Bird Called Fidelity
by Mazhar Butt
Once upon a time
A heavenly Bird called Fidelity
Flew down to Earth
Nestled up in the Hearts
Of Adam and Eve
And made them live together in Love and Peace
Suddenly an ill wind of Lust and Greed
Selfishness, Jealousy and Hate
Started to blow incessantly
Sweeping away the Nest
Making the Bird dash for its Life.
Although the storm soon subsided
But the bird Fidelity was no more to be found
Anywhere
The broad chests of Adam and Eve
Which were once the home of Fealty
Bear no more signs of Allegiance
of Faith and Trust--to one another.
The Nest is gone, the Bird is gone
All is gone from the hearts of humans
All that ought to have stayed
To make this world
A Paradise of Love and Peace
Ah, curse be on that swindling flimflam storm of Wind
Which took away Fidelity
God knows where.?
Let us find her if we can
And Nest her again in our Hearts
For the sake of restituting our Souls
With the long-desired Loyalty
Harmony, Love and Peace.
